Business Insights Analyst 

Role Description

The role of Business Analyst encompasses the following 3 areas. Our ideal candidate will be proficient in Business Intelligence and Analytics and be willing and in a position to support the Strategic Finance and Strategic Planning function at Sumo Logic. 

  1. Business Intelligence and Analytics (BI+A) – 60%

Be Sumo Logic’s go-to person on business intelligence and analytics

Technology and Systems

  • Provide input on technical, implementation and usability issues
  • Function as “full-stack” BI+A professional able to perform activities such as

o   Writing Python / SQL code to extract data from business systems e.g. SFDC, Sumo platform etc.

o   Designing data tables to ensure efficient performance and ease of future revision / expansion / updates

o   Implementing and maintaining a database e.g. Redshift instance, or partnering with Engineering team to do so

o   Developing user interface (dashboard, self-serve portal etc.) to extract business insights

o   Performing regular updates and maintenance of the data warehouse

Business Partnering

  • Assist in defining scope of version 1.0 of Sumo Logic’s BI initiative
  • Partner with functional teams (e.g. sales, marketing, customer success, FP&A etc.) to:

o   Understand business issues

o   Gather user requirements and identify data requirements

o   Develop the plan of action from a BI perspective addressing

  • What information is needed
  • What needs to be built
  • How it should be built
  • What is the output
  • How is the output accessed, etc?
  • Partner with functional teams to improve business processes to ensure capture of necessary business data, and ensure data integrity
  • Analyze large data sets and produce reports to address business questions and inform strategic decision making
  • Provide input and advice on BI+A best-practices

 

  1. Strategic Finance – 30%
  • Support Sumo Logic’s finance team from a financial strategy and planning perspective

o   Update and enhance Sumo Logic’s long-term financial plan

o   Produce quarterly SaaS KPIs

o   Perform peer benchmarking and tracking

o   Partner with FP&A on recurring and ad-hoc analyses

o   Assist in general corporate finance activities

 

  1. Strategic Planning – 10%
  • Support Sumo Logic’s business review and strategic planning process

o   Provide input on the planning process – timing and content

o   Develop and maintain dashboard to track business performance against objectives
