Big Data Architect at Human Longevity

This role provides architectural leadership for all assigned data driven product technology offerings and defining data application strategies/plans that balance providing new functionality with tightening data and data services integration. The Big Data Architect will drive common decisions for implementing on/off premise data software solutions, analyzing and selecting 3rd party applications/tools & components, and creating an integrated data architecture along with supporting data services development roadmaps and design artifacts. The role will continuously explore emerging technologies to ensure that the technical environment continues to meet the organization’s needs inclusive of cost factors, usability, and system behavioral constructs across these systems. The Big Data Architect is vested with the authority to work across and within programs and provide strategic, tactical, and operational direction to optimize technical and business outcomes.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The Big Data Architect comes from a deep technical and development background and has expertise in the technological and economic challenges surrounding data driven product development in an Agile environment with systems that support a diverse set of life science and business functions. This role will act as a subject matter expert and assist additionally the software engineering, data engineering, developers and QA/QC teams with supporting related programs to make sure they meet the SLAs, KPIs and regulatory requirements defined within the business, application, information and technology architecture principles.
Contributes to the architecture of all enterprise data solutions and multiple parallel data services development initiatives.
Maintains a strong understanding of the business or function for which the data service or data tool / product is designed so that projects, systems, or processes are aligned
Build data, application and infrastructure integration, ensuring that data interfaces are properly identified, designed, implemented and maintained
Contributes to enterprise information architecture and design guidelines
Communicates and collaborates with staff or clients to understand specific product, functional, or non-functional requirements
Defines best practices and governance principles, while working with business stakeholders to ensure the clinical and corporate solutions meet data delivery and quality SLAs / KPIs
Follow design guidelines and requirements of Enterprise Architecture
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, bioinformatics, information systems or other related field; or equivalent work experience
Hands-on experience with designing and implementing distributed architecture systems to petabyte data handling using OpenSource software
Expert in modern distributed architectures and compute / data analytics / storage technologies on AWS or similar platforms
Hands-on experience with programming language such as Java/Python/C#/Scala
Has applied architectural principles and design patterns / styles using parallel large-scale distributed frameworks such as Hadoop / Spark
Experience working with Agile development methodologies and tools (Jira, Confluence) in a compliance driven environment and hands-on experience with service-oriented / micro service architecture implementations (service bus, event processing, message queuing and workflow automation) including frameworks such as AWS, Informatica and other OpenSource solutions
Strong understanding of HDFS and other distributed file systems along with varying file formats (i.e. Parquet) as well as
Deep knowledge and experience with RDBMS (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and NoSQL databases such as HBase, CouchBase, Vertica, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra
Desired but not a must have: background in or exposure to Next Generation Sequencing, DNA, some knowledge in molecular biology and genetics.
