Genetic Counselor - Clinical Science at Human Longevity

Purpose of Job
Human Longevity is seeking an inspired, intellectually curious, and mission driven Genetic Counselor to be an integral part of the Clinical Sciences Team. This individual will report to the will provide domain expertise in genetic counseling for whole genome sequencing as well as assume ownership of the variant calling/curation collaboration between Clinical Sciences, the Health Nucleus (HN) and the laboratory variant/gene curation team. As part of this multidisciplinary team, this individual will play a significant role in the determination of reportable variants for HN clientele
Tasks and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Medical Director, devise efficient flow of information to and from the involved stakeholders that enables increased volume through the HN
Assist with coordination and communication of pertinent client genomic information to the Clinical Science team and then back to the HN team
Contribute to the preparation of genomic reports
Assist with the development of educational applications and tools
Help facilitate appropriate referrals and any additional genetic tests
Work collaboratively with the care team to determine next steps based on genomic results
Clearly and concisely communicate genetic results in writing and orally
Maintain positive work relationships with other technologists, practitioners, physicians and staff.
Contribute to phenotype data collection, follow-up with clients, safety monitoring and adherence to IRB protocols
Minimum Qualifications (Must have)
Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program, or graduate degree in a related field
Experience in genetic counseling or behavioral sciences research in genetics preferred
Experience working directly with patients
Significant experience in whole genome variant interpretation and gene curation
Certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics and/or the Canadian Association of Genetic Counselors
Knowledge of medical genetics in multiple medical specialties
Maintains patient confidentiality and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential and following HIPAA practices
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years experience in genetic counseling post completion of Master’s Degree
California State License as a Genetic Counselor
Experience in a start-up environment
Ability to analyze and incorporate research literature in return of genetic results
Excellent oral/written communication skills
Ability to work independently
Strong organizational and time management skills
Working Conditions
Open clinical environment
Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, bending and kneeling
Must be able to lift and transport at least 25 pounds
