Operations Manager, Components at Katerra

Position Overview

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Component Operations Manager will be responsible for all aspects of roof truss, floor truss, and interior and exterior wall production lines. In addition to the strategic components, the Component Operations Manager will be responsible for driving the day-to-day operations and interfacing with engineering, materials, manufacturing, quality, logistics, construction and customer service to ensure the success of the business

Principal Responsibilities

Ensure that all products are manufactured in a correct, cost effective and timely manner in alignment with specifications and quality requirements.
Improve operational systems, processes and best practices that guarantee organizations well-being.
Work in tandem with design, materials, logistics, and construction to ensure production efficiency.
Directly manage Component Productions Supervisors and provide guidance to meet production needs.
Improve production manufacturing processes for the purpose of improving overall quality, reducing lead-times and lowering overall costs of operations by using Lean Manufacturing, 6S, Kaizen, Six Sigma and Total Quality Management applications where necessary.
Contribute toward the achievement of company’s operational and strategic objectives.
Examine financial data/statements and use them to drive continuous improvement and to improve profitability.
Partner with safety and quality departments to maintain Katerra standards.

Other Responsibilities

Team Development / Leadership
Oversee, direct, and organize the work of Component staff.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement and high performance that values learning and a commitment to quality and customer service.
Ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate development, feedback and training.
Establish and monitor performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments, and monitor and evaluate results.
Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach.
Improve operator training processes using tested and measured Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s). Develop new procedures where none exist and ensure all employees operate to developed standards on a consistent basis.


Safety Responsibilities
Provide leadership and guidance in establishing work procedures and safety guidelines.
Enforce all company safety rules and regulations and apply safe work practices in all job tasks.
Report safety hazards and unsafe conditions to the safety committee.
Provide recommendations on how to eliminate or reduce discovered safety hazards.


Professional Qualities & Experience
Strong experience in the Construction industry in a manufacturing environment with specific experience in Components (roof trusses, wall trusses, interior and exterior walls) manufacturing.
Unfailing focus on customer service with a proven ability to deliver quality results on-time.
Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution.
Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, as well as hourly staff.
Passion for Katerra’s mission and real belief in the company’s value proposition.
Bachelor’s degree in operations management or related field preferred.
Experience utilizing SAP software platform
Strong Lean, Six Sigma, and 5S experience
Understanding of engineering principles.
Experience operating Randek or other automated production equipment.
