Purpose of Job
The HLI Heath Nucleus is seeking an inspired, intellectually curious, and mission driven Genetic Counselor to be an integral part of the Longevity Care Team. This individual will provide domain expertise in genetic counseling for whole genome sequencing. As part of the multidisciplinary team, this individual will also provide empathic, personalized care to Nucleus Clients throughout their experience – including a warm welcome, supportive clinical care for the duration of the evaluation, and ensure an unparalleled care experience.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Medical Director, disclose genomic results to client and provide education and counseling, as needed
Assist with coordination and communication of client genomic information among the care team
Contribute to the preparation of genomic reports, to include tasks involved with variance analysis, annotation and other data reporting functions.
Assist with the development of educational applications and tools
Help facilitate appropriate referrals and any additional genetic tests
Work collaboratively with the care team to determine next steps based on genomic results
Clearly and concisely communicate genetic results in writing and orally
Maintain positive work relationships with other technologists, practitioners, physicians and staff.
Contribute to phenotype data collection, follow-up with clients, safety monitoring and adherence to IRB protocols
Minimum Qualifications (Must have)
Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program, or graduate degree in a related field
Experience in genetic counseling or behavioral sciences research in genetics preferred
Experience working directly with patients
Board eligible or exam completion in progress. Certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics strongly preferred.
State License as a Genetic Counselor. California State License preferred.
Knowledge of medical genetics in multiple medical specialties
Maintains patient confidentiality and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential and following HIPAA practices
Preferred Qualifications
Significant background in whole genome sequencing is preferred
At least three years of experience in genetic counseling post completion of Master’s Degree
Experience in a start-up environment
Ability to analyze and incorporate research literature in return of genetic results
Excellent oral/written communication skills
Ability to work independently
Strong organizational and time management skills
Working Conditions
Open clinical environment
Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, bending and kneeling
Must be able to lift and transport at least 25 pounds
